                                  Scoring for this Tournament explained
The scoring is based on a simple point-a-board (or board-a-match) system, with one point being given to the team that wins each hand (board) and none to the team that loses it. Points will be shared if a hand produces an identical score. For example if North America scores plus 420 at one table, and minus 450 at the other table, it will receive no points. Europe will win that board instead and receive one point. The key point is that victory on each board goes to the team with the highest points score, regardless of the margin of victory.
Each match consists of a number of boards. The points scored by each team on these boards are added at the end of each match to produce an overall match winner. The winner of every match receives championship points, also known as Buffett points, on a "winner takes all" basis. The number of championship points at stake in each match depends on whether the format is individual , pairs or teams.
The championship points are carried forward and netted off as each match concludes in order to show which side is ahead at that point. If one side is in the lead, it will have a positive score, while the other side has an equivalent negative score. If the scoreboard shows Europe + 1 USA - 1, it means that the Americans are trailing by just one championship point. The team with the positive score at the end of the match is declared the winner.
