A cell phone was the downfall of the No. 22 seed (Brian Glubok, James Rosenbloom, Bill Eisenberg, Connie Goldberg, John Sutherlin and Dan Gerstman). They incurred a 12-IMP penalty for having the phone in the playing area, and those IMPs were the deciding factor in their close loss.

Tournament Disciplinary Committee decision
After the Friday, July 31 round in the Spingold, the NABC tournament Disciplinary Committee heard charges against Matt Granovetter-Ron Rubin and Walid Elahmady-Tarek Sadek for violation of the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge and ACBL Regulations due to a very late finish in the second quarter of their quarterfinal match.
The committee found Matt Granovetter-Ron Rubin responsible for the delay and placed them on 30-day probation, effective immediately. No discipline was imposed on Walid Elahmady-Tarek Sadek.

Source for all the following material is ACBL website. BridgeIndia.com just reproduces them for accessibilty to other countries like India who all will get benefit by these. BridgeIndia.com does not have any claim.
It is one of the great actions of ACBL that is to be appreciated that ACBL appeals' decisions are transparent and open to discussion. They do not shun criticism - in fact they welcome it - so that they can do better in future . This spirit is to be followed by other Bridge organisations in the world who have not done so.
